You are the importer
Bring it in yourself and the compliance file sits with you. In a failure — build, flotation, electrical — the importer carries that. In a serious accident the skipper and the owner still do.

Deep Blue Boats is the authorised desk for World Cat and EdgeWater in this region. A hull bought outside that channel is a grey import — also called a parallel import. The window price is the easy part.
Grey import
Official importers are authorised to sell a brand in this country. Boats exported for a destination are specified for that market — electrical standard, safety file, the paperwork an insurer will ask for. A hull bought “as is” from the United States or anywhere else was built for that market, not for an Australian or New Zealand survey.
Bring it in yourself and the compliance file sits with you. In a failure — build, flotation, electrical — the importer carries that. In a serious accident the skipper and the owner still do.
A grey import comes in without the factory’s consent. It is not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty. A check that passed in the country of origin is not a local safety file.
Every imported boat has to be assessed against local rules. State registration, electrical standard and insurance conditions are not the American sheet. Non-compliant is substandard until it is brought into line. If it cannot be, it should not be used.
Add freight, duty, GST, transport insurance, no factory warranty and often no local cover. Authorised dealers are often not permitted to service a grey hull or supply factory parts. Resale is the quiet number. Recalls go through the authorised desk. Many insurers will not pay if the boat is outside the local standard. You can be uninsured.
